The BIP at SBSTTA-21

SBSTTA-21. The twenty-first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) will be held from 11 to 14 December 2017, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, in Montreal, Canada.

BIP & NatureServe side event (SBSTTA-21): Biodiversity Indicators – Choosing and Using for CBD implementation

This event will help SBSTTA delegates consider how to choose and use indicators for: the production and communication of Global Biodiversity Outlook-5 (SBSTTA-21 Agenda Item 7) having measurable targets with effective global and national indicators in the post-2020 Strategic Plan, the production of 6th National Reports to the CBD and the implementation of NBSAPs. The Biodiversity Indicators Partnership and NatureServe will introduce their websites and indicator visualisation tools, and make suggestions for indicator development and use for the above CBD needs. There will then be discussions on how to meet these indicator needs for CBD global and national implementation. The flyer for this side event is available here.

Cross-mapping of the BIP indicators to the Aichi Targets and SDGs:

The BIP secretariat also produced an updated version of a poster with the current suite of indicators that are brought together under the BIP. The indicators have been mapped to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the Sustainable Development Goals to support the identification of indicator synergies between the processes. The poster is available here.
